Keep the fire burning (18+)

By Sharoneez Emephia
Relationships, especially long-term ones like marriage, do not thrive on their own or run on autopilot. Entering a relationship or marriage is like acquiring an empty piece of farmland—you must intentionally plant the exact species of crops you wish to harvest rather than leaving things to chance.
You must be deliberate about the quality of relationship you want to build with your partner.
Love your spouse or partner the way they want to be loved. Look for ways to bring joy to their life. Consider the issues that stress them or cause them concern and find ways to support them. Lighten your partner’s burden.
Make a conscious effort to keep things exciting in your relationship. Plan lunch or dinner dates. Be intentionally selfless and sacrificial. No well-meaning person would want to leave a relationship where they feel loved, respected, supported through life’s challenges, and prioritised by their partner.
Keep things interesting in the bedroom. Ensure your room is clean, cosy, and inviting. Discover what excites your spouse and embrace it. Keep your sex life vibrant—try new things together, as long as they do not degrade, hurt, or disrespect either of you.
A fulfilling marriage does not run on autopilot; you must be intentional and put in the effort to keep it passionate and strong.
Always remember: it takes two to build a wonderful marriage, but only one person to destroy it—no matter how incredible the other partner may be.
So, be intentional. Keep the fire burning in your relationship and marriage.
