KOICA, SKICAN empower Abuja youth through Digital innovation

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the South Korea International Cooperation Alumni of Nigeria (SKICAN) have once again demonstrated their commitment to youth development and digital innovation with the successful hosting of the 2025 Capstone Project Programme in Abuja.
The event, which was marked by creativity, collaboration and a spirit of youth-driven problem-solving, brought together students, educators, and development partners to showcase the power of digital literacy in transforming education and inspiring future leaders.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of KOICA Country Director, Mr Kim Eunsub, Mr Godwin Okwoche commended the Capstone Project as a SKICAN-initiated programme proudly supported by KOICA. He emphasised that the initiative was designed to enhance digital literacy and improve the teaching and learning experience in secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Mr Okwoche encouraged students to put their newly acquired knowledge and skills to meaningful use.
In his remarks, SKICAN President Mr Joseph Oboh described the 2025 edition as a dynamic continuation of the success recorded in 2024. Last year’s project empowered over 75 students across five FCT schools—Government Secondary Schools (GSS) Tudunwada Zone 4, Wuse Zone 3, Mabushi, Garki, and Jabi—by integrating information and communication technology (ICT) into their learning environments.
Mr Oboh noted that the programme provides a vital platform for students to translate academic knowledge into practical, real-world solutions. He underlined its alignment with national and global priorities on youth empowerment, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
Additionally, the programme introduced students to content creation as a tool for storytelling, promoting digital inclusion, and raising awareness about business and human rights within their schools and communities. Mr Oboh lauded KOICA’s steadfast dedication to innovation and development and reaffirmed SKICAN’s commitment to advancing KOICA’s transformative mission across Nigerian communities.
Also speaking at the event, Mr Lawrence Tawo, Team Lead for the Capstone Project 2025, described the programme as “educative and inspiring.” He highlighted the growing importance of digital literacy in today’s knowledge-driven society and stated that the project was purposefully structured to be both impactful and student-focused.
Mr Tawo expressed pride in the achievements of the participating students and extended his gratitude to all who supported the initiative.
Students in attendance expressed heartfelt appreciation to KOICA and SKICAN for the opportunity to grow, pledging to apply their new skills not only for personal advancement but also to drive positive change within their schools and communities.
The highlight of the one-day event was the practical, hands-on sessions which equipped students with both technical and soft skills essential for navigating the modern digital economy.
This KOICA-SKICAN partnership stands as a shining example of the potential of international collaboration in advancing youth empowerment, innovation, and sustainable development across
