Meeting the General:A day to remember

I grew up hearing about His Excellency, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, and watching him on television—particularly during his tenure as President of Nigeria, and later when he established the Presidential Library in Ota, Ogun State.
As a writer and author, I had always wondered what it would feel like to spend a day or two surrounded by books written by great minds. I imagined how profoundly such an experience would shape my thinking and ignite my creativity to an all-time high. I had long admired and respected this intellectual side of the General—the author, the book lover—and I secretly hoped that one day, I would meet him.
So, you can imagine my excitement when the opportunity finally came—not just to meet him in person but also to hear his practical insights on life, his childhood experiences, and his deeply encouraging words. It was exactly the inspiration I needed as a young writer.
Meeting the General was both inspiring and profound for me. It reminded me of the African proverb: “When a child washes his hands clean, he may dine with elders.” It also brought to mind the biblical passage: “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.” Another scripture, which I paraphrase, says: “Do you see a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings and not mere men.”
Had I not pursued my dreams and calling as a creative writer and storyteller, I would never have had books and other works from the Sharoneez brand to present to the General. That was what created the opportunity for me—that was my selling point.
*What is your selling point?*
Are you actively chasing your dreams and pushing yourself towards your passions and talents?
Refuse to live an empty life. Don’t just sit idly, complaining about those who refuse to support you. You must first start with whatever is in your hands.
Destiny’s miracles only begin when you step out of your comfort zone and take deliberate steps towards your life’s goals and purpose.
Keep developing yourself, expand your capacity, and remain prepared and expectant for life-changing opportunities—because if you are not ready when they come, you will surely miss them.
Meeting the General, as I had always hoped to, will remain an evergreen and inspiring moment in my journey.
