NAWOJ Congratulates Minister of Women affairs, announces award

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, on her recent national and international recognitions, including the Changemaker Award received in New York during this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations.

NAWOJ commended the Minister’s leadership and dedication in advancing the welfare of women, children, and the girl child in Nigeria.
During a courtesy visit, NAWOJ National Chairperson, Aisha Ibrahim, emphasized the association’s commitment to advocating for women’s rights and amplifying the voices of women and children.

She highlighted the upcoming NAWOJ National Conference in Borno State, themed “Women Journalists, Peace, and Security in Nigeria,” which will focus on the role of women journalists in promoting peace, especially in conflict-affected regions. At the event, NAWOJ intends to honor the Minister with an Award of Excellence in recognition of her contributions to the advancement of women and children.

In her response, Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim pledged support for NAWOJ’s mission to amplify women’s voices nationwide. She underscored the importance of women supporting one another, advocating for the ‘She for She’ initiative, and noted that greater cooperation among women is essential to achieving gender equality and a better society.

The Minister also promised to attend the NAWOJ conference and personally receive the award, while urging Nigerians to support the current administration’s efforts to improve the country.

The NAWOJ delegation was led by National Chairperson Aisha Ibrahim, accompanied by the Chairperson of FCT NAWOJ Bassey Ita Ikpang

Established in 1989, NAWOJ continues to serve as the umbrella body for women journalists in Nigeria, advocating for gender inclusion and professional development in the media sector
