NAWOJ FCT Champions Women’s achievements, gender parity

NAWOJ FCT Chairperson Bassey Ita Ikpang has highlighted the crucial role women play across various sectors, from political leadership and business innovation to technological advancements and healthcare improvements.
Their contributions are pivotal in shaping the nation’s future. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” underscores the global push to honor women’s achievements and continue the quest for gender equality.
Mrs Bassey said by recognizing these contributions, society can better support women in their endeavors and foster a more equitable environment for all.
“On this special day therefore, we stand in solidarity with women in FCT as we join other women globally to accelerate action and push for gender equity .
We acknowledge the strides we’ve made, but we also recognize the challenges that remain.
NAWOJ FCT is committed to continuing the fight for the empowerment of women, ensuring equal opportunities for all, and creating platforms where women’s voices are heard and valued.
This year, with our Sub-Theme: “AMPLIFYING THE VOICE OF RURAL WOMEN” (NAWOJ), FCT underscores the urgent need to bridge gender gaps, uplift rural women, and create a society where all women have equal opportunities to thrive.
THE NEED FOR URGENT ACTION
Women, particularly those in rural communities, continue to face challenges including limited access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare, and political representation. While progress has been made, there remains a pressing need to take deliberate and bold actions to break barriers that hinder women’s development.
As journalists and advocates for women’s rights, NAWOJ FCT is committed to using the power of the media to highlight gender issues, advocate for policies that empower women, and hold stakeholders accountable in ensuring an inclusive society.
CALL TO STAKEHOLDERS
On this occasion, we call on: Government agencies to implement and enforce policies that promote gender equality and provide sustainable support for rural women.
Traditional and community leaders to champion women’s empowerment and eliminate harmful cultural practices that hinder progress.
Corporate bodies and development partners to invest in skill acquisition, entrepreneurship programs, and healthcare services targeted at women in underserved communities.
The media to continue amplifying women’s voices and advocating for social justice and equal opportunities.
OUR COMMITMENT
NAWOJ FCT remains steadfast in ensuring that women’s issues remain a priority. Through strategic partnerships, media advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives, we will continue to push for the empowerment of women across all sectors.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, let us not only reflect on the challenges but take decisive steps towards creating a future where every woman, regardless of her background, can achieve her full potential.
Together, let’s accelerate action and amplify the voices of rural women” She added
