Nigeria and Egypt face must-win tests in AFCON round of 16
Nigeria and Egypt are set for critical Round of 16 matches at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 as the tournament enters the knockout stage.
The Super Eagles secured their place in the last 16 after defeating Tunisia 3‑2 in the final Group C match. Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman helped Nigeria hold off a late Tunisian comeback.
Egypt, who remained unbeaten in the group stage, will face Benin in their Round of 16 clash. The Pharaohs will rely on the attacking prowess of Mohamed Salah and their experienced squad to advance to the quarter-finals.
Other tournament favorites, including Senegal, Mali, and host nation Morocco, have already qualified for the quarter-finals, leaving little margin for error for Nigeria and Egypt.
Kick-off times and venues for both matches have been confirmed, and fans are expected to fill stadiums across Morocco to witness the high-stakes encounters.
