Novak Djokovic resigns from players’ association over transparency concerns

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has resigned from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), the organisation he co‑founded in 2020, citing concerns about transparency and governance.

Djokovic announced his decision on Sunday via social media, saying he no longer believes the association’s direction aligns with his values. He noted issues with how his voice and image were represented within the organisation as part of his reasons for leaving.

The PTPA, created alongside Canadian player Vasek Pospisil, was established to give professional tennis players a stronger, independent voice separate from the ATP and WTA. The body has been involved in legal disputes with tennis governing organisations over player welfare and governance matters.

In response, the PTPA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and collaborative decision‑making, saying it is open to addressing any concerns from its members. Djokovic said he will now focus on his playing career, family, and personal projects, as he prepares for the upcoming season, including a bid for a record 25th Grand Slam title.
