Nigeria’s Flamingos head to South Africa for U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier

The Nigerian U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, departed for South Africa today ahead of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying first-leg match against South Africa’s Bantwana.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 8, at 2 PM Nigerian time at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Pretoria.
Head coach Bankole Olowookere has named a 19-player squad, including standout players like goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, midfielders Shakirat Moshood and Muinat Rotimi, and forwards Harmony Chidi and Chisom Nwachukwu.
The Flamingos received a bye to the second round of qualifiers after earning bronze at the 2022 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Bantwana advanced by defeating Gabon 21-2 on aggregate in the first round.
The return leg will take place on March 15 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
The aggregate winner will proceed to the third round of qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco
