NUJ FCT Council mourns the passing of former auditor, Charles Ahamefula

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council has announced, with deep sadness, the passing of its former Auditor and Treasurer, Chief Charles Enyaoha Ahamefula. He died on Sunday at the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja, following a brief illness.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Jide Oyekunle, the union described Chief Ahamefula as a dedicated journalist whose service to the profession and the union left a lasting impact.
Chief Ahamefula had a distinguished career at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), where he held various positions, including Controller of News and Head of the Igbo Translation Unit. He also served as a senior reporter covering the Federal Ministry of Transport before his retirement in 2014.
Between 2005 and 2009, he served as Auditor and Treasurer of the NUJ FCT Council, where he was instrumental in strengthening financial transparency and accountability. He also played a key role in reclaiming the then-revoked NUJ Abuja Council property in Utako District.
Beyond his official roles, Chief Ahamefula was a passionate advocate for press freedom and a mentor to aspiring journalists, instilling in them the core principles of ethical journalism. His insightful reporting significantly shaped public discourse, promoting national unity and peace.
Born on 10th August 1949 in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State, Chief Ahamefula is survived by three children and three grandchildren.
The NUJ FCT Council mourns the loss of an esteemed colleague and media stalwart. His contributions to journalism and the union will remain an enduring legacy. The council extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
