Sensitise members to build a better union,Comrade Ike urges Journalists

The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has urged the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel, FCT, to remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in managing the affairs of the chapel while promoting ethical journalism.
The Chairman made this call when the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel, led by Acting Chairman Felix Ojo, paid a courtesy visit to the Council.
This visit marked a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the chapel and the council, fostering a cohesive and professional journalism community.
The Vice Chairman of the Council, Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo, who represented the Chairman, emphasised the need to sanitise the Correspondents’ Chapel for a stronger union.
She stressed the importance of upholding professionalism, promoting excellence, and fostering unity among members.
Ike underscored the significance of ethical and professional standards as journalists serve as the watchdog and mirror of society.
“The council has provided scholarships to equip members with the necessary skills and knowledge.
“We believe that investing in our members’ education, training, and retraining will enhance their knowledge and skills, ultimately benefiting journalism in Abuja.
“Elections have come and gone, and there is now a need for unity within the chapel,” she added.
The Chairman highlighted the importance of continuing education and professional development for journalists, especially in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
“We are committed to providing training and resources to ensure our members thrive in this changing environment. Investing in our members will build a stronger, more resilient union, capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.”
The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both the Correspondents’ Chapel and the Abuja Council to fostering unity, professionalism, and excellence within the journalism community.
The call to sanitise the Correspondents’ Chapel is of paramount importance, given its strategic position as a gateway to the council.
She urged the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel to continue raising the bar of excellence and ensuring that only qualified and professional journalists are admitted into the chapel.
”The chapel must establish and maintain the highest standards of excellence and eliminate unqualified practitioners”.
”This will ensure that only bona fide journalists with a commitment to professionalism are admitted, thereby safeguarding the integrity of both the Chapel and the Council”.
Acting Chairman Felix Ojo commended the union’s leadership for embracing the “One Voice, New Era” mantra, which promotes unity and solidarity among journalists. He expressed gratitude to the Abuja Council for its support and guidance.
“We are committed to working with the Abuja Council to advance the interests of journalists in Abuja,” Ojo stated.
The courtesy visit marked significant progress in fostering unity, professionalism, and excellence within the journalism community.
Other members of the delegation included key members of the Correspondents’ Chapel Executive Committee: Comrade Raphael Oni (Secretary), Comrade Sharon Emephia (Assistant Secretary), and Comrade Henrietta Momodu (Financial Secretary).
