Okowa, Oborevwori lead PDP exodus to APC

In a dramatic political development, former Governor of Delta State and the 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has defected to Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Joining him in the mass defection is the incumbent Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, who has reportedly aligned the entire PDP-led governance structure in the state with the APC.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
In a video message shared ahead of the formal declaration, Dr Okowa assured his supporters of his commitment to pursuing the best interests of the people.
“Be assured that we will not take the wrong path. We will follow the best direction—one that benefits our people,” he stated.
This sweeping realignment is anticipated to have significant political consequences ahead of the 2027 general elections. Dr Okowa’s defection is especially striking given his recent prominence as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential race.
The move is seen as a major boost for the APC in Delta State and may enhance the party’s influence across the South-South region.
