Opposition leaders hold meeting in Abuja over electoral reforms
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola are currently meeting in Abuja to present their position on the amended Electoral Act and other pressing national issues.
The meeting is taking place at the Lagos/Osun Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where the opposition leaders are expected to brief journalists on contentious provisions of the recently amended Electoral Act signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Opposition parties have expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of the amendment, particularly the absence of provisions mandating real-time electronic transmission of election results directly from polling units.
Among those present at the gathering are former Senate President David Mark, New Nigeria Peoples Party chieftain Buba Galadima, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Cross River State governor Liyel Imoke, Senator Dino Melaye, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, and former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, among other stakeholders.
The meeting is expected to produce a joint position by opposition leaders on electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
