Osun 2026: Gov Adeleke resigns from PDP
With less than 24 hours to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned his membership of the party, escalating the internal crisis rocking the chapter.
On Monday, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, announced that the party would no longer hold Tuesday’s primary due to persistent factional disputes. He also disclosed that Governor Adeleke was no longer seeking the party’s nomination, attributing the withdrawal to deepening internal rancour.
But in a dramatic twist, a separate communication said to have emanated from the PDP national secretariat insisted the primary would proceed as scheduled at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo. The conflicting directives further exposed the widening gulf between the party’s national and state organs.
Amid the confusion, the governor’s resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, surfaced on Monday evening. Addressed to the PDP Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, Adeleke cited the unresolved crisis within the national leadership of the PDP as his reason for exiting the party.
The letter, titled “Resignation of My Membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” read:
> “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”
Adeleke expressed gratitude to the party for the platform that enabled his rise from Senator representing Osun West to Governor of the state.
> “I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State,” he wrote.
With the state chapter insisting the primary cannot hold and the national secretariat maintaining it will proceed, the fate of the exercise remains uncertain, even as Adeleke’s departure is expected to trigger fresh political realignments across Osun.
