Police launch manhunt after ammunition dumped on Zaria–Funtua highway
The Kaduna State Police Command has begun a manhunt for suspects who abandoned a sack containing 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition along the Zaria–Funtua Highway.
Police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan said the discovery followed a tip-off from residents who reported that passengers in a black Volkswagen Golf commercial vehicle threw a sack out of the moving car at the Dogo Itace area in Samaru, Zaria.
Responding to the alert, the Divisional Police Officer of Samaru Division led a patrol team to the scene, where the bag was recovered and found to contain the ammunition. The DPO immediately alerted other divisions along the route up to Funtua, but the suspects could not be tracked down due to delayed communication.
Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad urged residents to remain vigilant and provide prompt information to security agencies, stressing that a full-scale search for the fleeing suspects is underway. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and warned criminal elements to steer clear of Kaduna State or face decisive action.
