Restrict movement to military, govt facilities in Abuja, U.S warns citizens

The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a security advisory warning American citizens to steer clear of non-essential visits to military and government installations in Abuja.
This notice, released by the US Embassy on Monday, comes amid rising global security concerns.
According to the embassy, all personnel attached to the mission, including their families, have been barred from visiting such facilities unless on official assignment. While the advisory did not provide details on the specific threats, it noted that recent international developments had triggered stricter security measures around sensitive locations.
The US government also urged American citizens living in or traveling to Nigeria to maintain heightened vigilance, particularly in places often frequented by foreigners, expatriates, and government officials. In addition, residents have been advised to steer clear of large gatherings, adopt unpredictable movement patterns, and familiarise themselves with emergency exits in buildings they visit.
The embassy further encouraged US nationals to review their personal security plans and remain cautious throughout their stay in the country.
