Terrorist attack in Kebbi state claims 16 lives in Morai Village
Suspected Lakurawa terrorists launched an attack on Morai Village in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing at least 10 vigilantes and six other community members.
According to one of the victims, Sha’aibu, a large number of gunmen invaded the villages of Garu, Murai, Unguwar Ladan, Unguwar Mairaqumi, Binnani and Unguwar Mai Turu, under the Yola District, carting away herds of cattle.
Vigilante groups mobilised and pursued the bandits to retrieve the animals, but were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the Lakurawa, who killed 10 vigilantes, including their commander, while 6 other civilians also succumbed to gunshots.
Governor Nasir Idris paid a condolence visit to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of the District, Lamnen Yola, Kabiru Hussaini, where he expressed deep sympathy for the families and relations of the deceased.
He also donated 50 million Naira cash to the bereaved families, reaffirming commitment to go all out to surmount the heinous activities of bandits who murder innocent souls, and steal their property.
