Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has declared that President Bola Tinubu should not be blamed for the country’s current economic difficulties, insisting the President deserves the nation’s collective support to navigate the hard times.

Speaking to State House correspondents on Tuesday after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Governor Eno described Tinubu’s first two years in office as “wonderful” and marked by courageous efforts to confront inherited challenges.

“President Tinubu didn’t create the problem we are in right now,” Governor Eno said. “For me, I believe he is doing his best, and he should be supported to finish strong.”

The governor also highlighted progress recorded under his administration in Akwa Ibom State, pointing to achievements in education, healthcare, road construction, and rural development.

“When you come to Akwa Ibom, you’ll see we are working across the board — from schools to hospitals, roads, and markets. We are delivering tangible results,” he noted.

Eno explained that while his first year prioritized grassroots development, his government was now poised to commence major infrastructure projects aimed at transforming Akwa Ibom into an economic and tourism hub.

“We’re now moving into super infrastructure. We want to make Akwa Ibom a tourist destination — and we are well on our way,” he added.

The governor lauded the legacy of past leaders in the state, including Obong Victor Attah, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Chief Udom Emmanuel, saying they collectively laid a strong foundation for sustainable development.

On youth empowerment, Eno said his administration had intensified investments in skills development, job creation, and entrepreneurship.

“We’re training our young people, supporting SMEs, and have launched an employment portal to match job seekers with opportunities,” he stated. “The goal is to rebuild the middle class and create sustainable livelihoods.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive growth through partnerships with the federal government and private sector, vowing to unlock the state’s full potential through collaboration and long-term planning.
