Tinubu set for Two-Nation trip to Japan, Brazil
President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for official visits to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In Japan, the President will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22. The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, improved business environments, and stronger institutions through private investment and innovation. It will also address building a resilient and sustainable African society that promotes human security, peace, and stability.
Alongside participating in plenary sessions, Tinubu will hold bilateral talks and meet chief executives of Japanese companies with business interests in Nigeria. Initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is a triennial forum alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition was hosted in Tunisia in August 2022.
After the conference, Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25 at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In Brazil, he will hold bilateral meetings, participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors, and oversee the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation between both nations.
The President will be accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials on the trip.
