Tobi Amusan sets new record at Rabat Diamond League

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan returned to winning ways on Sunday, claiming victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 Rabat Diamond League with a remarkable time of 12.45 seconds.
The performance not only earned her the gold medal but also set a new Meeting Record and marked her Season’s Best, firmly placing her among the favourites for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.
Amusan’s blistering run broke the previous Rabat meet record of 12.51 seconds, which had stood since 2018 when American hurdler Brianna McNeal set the mark. Dutch athlete Nadine Visser followed in second place with a time of 12.67 seconds, while Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska claimed third with 12.69 seconds.
Speaking after the race, Amusan credited her victory to renewed focus on hurdle practice. She explained that although she had concentrated more on sprinting earlier in the season, returning to intensive hurdle drills made a decisive impact.
This latest triumph signals a strong comeback for the 2022 world champion, whose 2025 season had started slowly. The Rabat victory reaffirms her status as a top contender for the global championships in Tokyo.
In other highlights from the Rabat Diamond League, South Africa’s Akani Simbine stormed to victory in the men’s 100m final, clocking 9.95 seconds. He was closely followed by Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala and American star Fred Kerley, who finished second and third respectively.
