Troops kill terrorists, rescue kidnap victims in Sokoto, Katsina raids

Troops under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh operational successes in Sokoto and Katsina States, including the neutralisation of terrorists, rescue of abducted victims, and recovery of weapons and rustled livestock.

According to military authorities, the coordinated operations were executed through ground offensives and intelligence-led missions aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating across the North-West region.

The first encounter occurred on June 21 when terrorists reportedly attempted to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State. Acting on credible intelligence, troops swiftly mobilised and engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee.

Military surveillance later tracked the fleeing suspects to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were found moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock.

Troops pursued the criminals but came under ambush during the operation. However, they overpowered the attackers in a fierce exchange of fire, forcing them to scatter and retreat.

The operation led to the rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of rustled cattle, and seizure of two motorcycles allegedly used by the bandits.

In a separate raid carried out in the early hours of Monday, June 22, troops stormed a suspected hideout in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State based on intelligence reports.

The operation resulted in a heavy gun battle during which two terrorists were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Recovered items included one PKT machine gun, one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, communication equipment, rustled livestock, and other operational materials linked to the group.

Military authorities said the coordinated offensives demonstrate the sustained pressure on armed groups and reaffirmed commitment to restoring peace across the region.

They assured residents that operations would continue until terrorist hideouts are dismantled and normalcy fully returns to affected communities.
