Wike re-awards Abuja road project to new contractor
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has re-awarded a major road construction project in Abuja to a different firm following what officials described as unsatisfactory performance by the previous contractor.
FCT authorities said the decision came after repeated warnings and assessments showed that the initial contractor failed to meet delivery timelines and project specifications. The project, considered important for easing traffic flow and improving connectivity within the capital city, had reportedly experienced prolonged delays.
Wike approved the termination and immediate re-award to a new company with what the ministry described as a stronger capacity to meet the required standards and deadlines. He has repeatedly emphasised that all contractors working in the FCT must demonstrate competence and adhere strictly to agreed schedules.
The minister also restated that the administration will not hesitate to revoke any contract that does not show tangible progress, noting that ongoing infrastructure upgrades in Abuja must be completed within the stipulated timelines for the benefit of residents.
Details of the newly contracted firm and fresh timelines for completion are expected to be released by the FCT Administration.
