Tinubu’s govt focused on Nigerians, not party politics – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government prioritises improving the lives of Nigerians over partisan politics. He made this assertion during the inauguration of the newly completed five-kilometre dual carriageway in Kuje, which stretches from Tipper Garage Junction to the LEA Secretariat in Kuje Area Council.
Highlighting the tangible impact of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Wike stated that the government is fulfilling its commitment to deliver development projects across Nigeria. “This is not about political parties. It is about improving the lives of Nigerians. Party is just a vehicle to reach a destination. Once you arrive, it becomes about the people. President Tinubu’s focus is on uplifting Nigerians, and that’s evident in what we are doing here,” Wike explained.
The minister emphasised that the development initiatives in the six area councils of the FCT reflect the president’s resolve to honour his campaign promises to Abuja residents. “You have fulfilled your part by voting for Mr President, and he is now fulfilling his promise by providing essential infrastructure. While we may not be where we aim to be yet, progress is steady, and we will get there,” he assured.
Addressing the elated residents of Kuje, Wike expressed satisfaction with their joy and stressed that the essence of governance is to enhance the well-being of the people. “When the people are happy, the government is happy. Your joy is our motivation,” he remarked.
Wike also disclosed that the administration has allocated N50 billion in this year’s national budget to provide potable water to Abuja’s satellite towns, including Kuje. He noted that this initiative, backed by a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese company, demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to improving living standards in underserved areas.
The commissioned Kuje road project, which commenced in February last year, also features 162 solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and accessibility. Wike noted that this development is part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure across Abuja’s suburbs.
As the minister concluded his address, he reiterated the administration’s resolve to do more for FCT residents, assuring them that progress will continue steadily: “As my people say, ‘Little by little, the monkey is caught.’ We are making headway, and there is more to come.”
