Super Eagles held to 1-1 draw by South Africa in crucial World Cup Qualifier
An own goal by Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong and a second-half equaliser from Calvin Bassey saw Nigeria held to a 1-1 draw against South Africa in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
The result leaves Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup hanging in the balance as they failed to secure maximum points away from home.
With two games remaining in Group C, South Africa lead the table with 17 points, six ahead of the Super Eagles, who are tied on 11 points with Benin Republic, though Benin have a game in hand.
