Tinubu mourns former Super Eagles coach Festus Onigbinde

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sympathy to the family, associates and the Nigerian football community over the death of renowned football administrator and former Super Eagles head coach, High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde.

Chief Onigbinde died on Monday at the age of 88.

In a condolence message, the President extended his sympathies to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the National Sports Commission (NSC), professional colleagues and football fans across the country.

Tinubu described the late Modakeke High Chief as a respected figure in Nigerian football who made remarkable contributions to the development of the game.

He noted that Onigbinde distinguished himself as the first indigenous coach of the Super Eagles in 1982 and played a significant role in strengthening football administration in Nigeria.

The President also acknowledged the coach’s historic achievement in leading Nigeria to the final of the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Tinubu, the accomplished football tactician will be remembered for his discipline, integrity, foresight and enduring passion for football.

The President prayed for the repose of the late coach and asked God to grant comfort to his family and loved ones.
