Super Eagles slip to 45th in latest FIFA ranking
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one place in the September FIFA World Ranking, moving from 44th to 45th globally with 1,483 points, down from 1,484 in July.
The team’s recent performances contributed to the slide, with mixed results that included a draw against South Africa, victories over Rwanda (1–0) and Congo (2–0), but losses to Sudan (0–4) and Senegal (0–1).
On the African continent, Nigeria now ranks 6th, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Globally, Spain climbed to the top, ending Argentina’s reign since April 2023, and holding the world’s number one spot for the first time since 2014. Slovakia emerged as the biggest climber, jumping 10 places to 42nd.
FIFA noted that over 200 international matches influenced the reshuffling of positions in the latest update.
