Shettima departs Abuja to represent Tinubu at UN General Assembly
Vice-President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Sunday for New York, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to a statement signed by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Vice-President, Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level debates and participate in a series of engagements at the global gathering.
“Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja, Nigeria, to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, holding in New York, United States of America, from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025,” the statement read.
Shettima will also unveil Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement at this year’s UN climate special event.
The high-level general debate will run from September 23 to 27 and conclude on September 29, while the SDG Moment is scheduled for September 22 to spotlight actions driving progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.
His itinerary in New York also includes bilateral and multilateral meetings focusing on issues of national and international relevance.
