No religious genocide in Nigeria, says President Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday dismissed allegations of religious genocide in Nigeria, insisting that no faith is under siege in the country.
Speaking in Owerri, Imo State, the President described such claims as baseless and misleading, stressing that Nigerians remain committed to harmony and shared prosperity.
He noted that, 65 years after independence, citizens had come to value religious and cultural diversity while exploring its advantages in education, economy, and other areas of national growth. Tinubu made the remarks at the unveiling of a book authored by Governor Hope Uzodimma on a decade of APC leadership in Nigeria.
The President also commissioned key projects in the state, including the Owerri-Mbaise-Umahia road, the Assumpta Twin Flyover, and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Convention Centre.
In a firm address at the convention centre, Tinubu declared: “Nigeria is a proud, sovereign nation built on the faith and resilience of its people. Here, no faith is under siege, no community is excluded. Our churches, mosques, and traditional shrines stand side by side—not as rivals, but as symbols of the unity that binds us. We must never allow outsiders to tell us who we are or sow division among us.”
He emphasized the achievements of the APC since 2015, noting investments in infrastructure, improved public finance accountability, and efforts against terrorism under former President Muhammadu Buhari. While admitting mistakes, Tinubu insisted that the party had steered the country away from collapse, promising not to allow Nigeria to return to the “wasted years of drift.”
The President further assured the South-East of inclusion under his Renewed Hope agenda, highlighting his creation of regional development commissions to foster progress. He commended Governor Uzodimma for documenting the APC’s achievements, describing the book as a reminder of accountability in leadership.
The event was attended by top political leaders, APC stalwarts, lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, diplomats, and student groups. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Uzodimma praised Tinubu for his policies, citing improved education funding, agriculture, and consistent support to states through increased allocations.
