Kano Court orders popular TikTokers to marry within 60 Days over ‘Indecent’ videos
A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered two well-known TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to get married within 60 days following their appearance in viral videos considered “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.
The videos, which featured the pair displaying romantic gestures, were described by authorities as contrary to the moral and religious standards of the state.
Presiding Magistrate Halima Wali issued the directive on Monday, instructing the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage within the stipulated time frame. She also warned that failure to comply would be regarded as contempt of court.
The court further mandated the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the implementation of the marriage order.
Both TikTokers had been arraigned in previous weeks over allegations of producing and distributing obscene social media content. Mai Wushirya was earlier remanded in a correctional facility after videos showing him in “immoral acts” with the female creator went viral.
The Censorship Board insisted that their videos breached state laws against the production and circulation of sexually suggestive or obscene material.
