Christian Killings: Trump orders U.S. Department of war to prepare for possible action in Nigeria
United States President Donald Trump has directed the Department of War to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria, citing reports of the killing of Christians by Islamic terrorists.
In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump warned the Nigerian government to act swiftly to end what he described as the “killing of Christians” in the country. He also threatened to halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria if the government fails to act.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!” Trump wrote.
This comes just a day after the U.S. government redesignated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” following renewed allegations of Christian persecution in the country. Trump accused radical Islamists of carrying out a “mass slaughter” of Christians in Nigeria.
Reacting to the development, President Bola Tinubu rejected Trump’s position, stressing that Nigeria remains a democratic nation that upholds constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and belief.
