Tinubu swears in Two Ministers, vows to defeat terrorism

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday reassured the United States that his administration is committed to defeating terrorism in Nigeria.

Speaking in response to concerns raised by US President Donald Trump, Tinubu said that despite political headwinds, the Nigerian government will continue to engage its international partners diplomatically.

The statement followed a presentation by Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who reported that Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.23 percent in the second quarter of 2025—the highest quarterly figure in a decade outside the post-COVID era.

President Tinubu made the remarks shortly after swearing in two new ministers from Enugu and Plateau states.

Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, from Enugu State, and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State took the oath of office at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Dr. Udeh replaced Chief Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned amid allegations of a forged certificate. Dr. Doro replaced Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on the economy and security, President Tinubu said:
“The most important thing is that despite the political headwind and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with our partners.”

“The success of the 2.3 billion bond over-subscription is the most at this stage. So, the task ahead is immense. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in the country.

The task ahead is immense but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose, guided by the Renewed Hope agenda to build a prosperous, inclusive and resilient Nigeria.”

During the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the president, a minute of silence was observed in honour of the late Senator Solomon Ewuga, former FEC member and Chief of Staff to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and General Mohammed Abdullahi, former military governor of Benue Plateau State and first Director General of the Nigerian Security Organization.
