Excitement as Flame Chapel NUJ elects new executives

The Flame Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT has successfully elected new executive members to oversee the affairs of the chapel for the next three years.

The election, conducted in a peaceful and transparent atmosphere, was supervised by a three-member electoral committee led by Elisha Dokyoung. All candidates were returned unopposed.

The newly elected executives are:

Love Nneka Wilson – Chairman

Edafe Benjamin Akporhuarho – Vice Chairman

Ebi Oghegbuan Ahiunune – Secretary

Halima Osimhi – Assistant Secretary

Ruth Mbanengen Yitnoe – Financial Secretary

Angel Tari-Ogola – Auditor

Edith Ati Onotu Attah – Treasurer

Kayode Henry Odunayo

The Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, represented by the Council Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, observed the election process and commended the chapel for its orderly conduct. He congratulated the new executives and urged them to be exemplary ambassadors of the union, prioritising the interests of their members.

Oyekunle emphasised the importance of upholding professional standards within the chapel and encouraged members to pursue certifications in journalism. He reaffirmed the NUJ’s commitment to supporting the chapel’s growth and development.

He further charged the newly elected leaders to uphold ethical journalism, noting that journalists serve as the mirror of society and must justify the public’s trust. He reminded them of the critical role of fairness, objectivity, and balance in their reportage, describing journalism as both a calling and a platform for positive societal impact.

In his remarks, Oyekunle stated:

“I congratulate Flame Chapel on the successful conduct of this election. Your spirit of maturity and sportsmanship is commendable and worthy of emulation. Leadership is not about how much you campaign but about meeting the challenges of the office. Unity is essential for success, and I urge all members to work closely with the new executives to move the chapel forward.”

He further assured that the NUJ FCT Council remains committed to promoting ethical and professional standards among its members, in line with the union’s constitution.

In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Love Nneka Wilson, expressed gratitude to the electoral committee for ensuring a smooth electoral process. She also appreciated all members for their participation and assured them of a new era of service, professional excellence, and inclusivity.

The new executive members subsequently took the Oath of Office, marking the official commencement of their tenure.

The peaceful nature of the election reaffirmed the unity and commitment of members to the growth of the Flame Chapel. With the new leadership in place, the chapel looks forward to an era of progress, accountability, and transparency.

It is worth noting that the immediate past executive, led by Austin Ekanem, made significant contributions to the growth and visibility of the chapel, setting a strong foundation for the new administration.
