INEC Chairman swears in new Oyo REC, cautions against compromise
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday officially sworn in a new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State, with Chairman Mahmood Yakubu urging strict adherence to electoral integrity.
During the ceremony, Yakubu warned that impartiality and transparency must guide the REC’s duties, stressing that any compromise could undermine public confidence in the electoral process. “The credibility of our elections depends on the commitment of our officials to fairness, accountability, and the rule of law,” he said.
The newly appointed REC pledged to uphold the principles of neutrality and professionalism, assuring that the commission would continue to conduct elections that reflect the will of the people.
The swearing-in comes ahead of several upcoming elections in the state, emphasizing the need for vigilance and dedication to free, fair, and credible polls.
