Anambra Assembly removes suspended lawmaker during budget session
The Anambra State House of Assembly on Monday ejected a suspended lawmaker from the ongoing budget presentation session, raising tensions within the chamber. The suspended legislator, whose suspension was recently upheld, reportedly attempted to participate in the budget deliberations despite the official ban.
Assembly officials maintained that the ejection was necessary to uphold the integrity of the legislative process. “The rules of the House are clear. A suspended member cannot partake in official proceedings, including budget presentations,” a senior assembly official stated.
The incident has sparked debate among lawmakers and political observers about adherence to legislative protocols and the broader implications of suspension on parliamentary participation. Meanwhile, the budget presentation continues, with the House leadership emphasizing the importance of completing the process without disruption.
The ejected lawmaker has yet to comment publicly on the incident, but sources suggest legal and political challenges may follow.
