BREAKING: US delivers fresh military supplies to Nigeria to boost security operations
The United States has delivered a fresh batch of military supplies to Nigerian security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s fight against rising insecurity.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) via a post on X, formerly Twitter. According to the statement, the supplies were handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
“US forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM said.
The latest consignment forms part of sustained military cooperation between both countries, aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s operational capacity in tackling terrorism, banditry and other security threats across the country.
Nigeria has in recent months witnessed a surge in insecurity, with hundreds of citizens abducted in mass kidnappings across several states, while armed groups continue to attack rural communities and travellers on major highways.
The renewed military support comes amid heightened counterterrorism efforts, following recent airstrikes reportedly carried out by US forces on terrorist enclaves in North-West Nigeria on Christmas Day.
Security analysts say the continued partnership between Nigeria and the United States remains critical as the country grapples with complex security challenges on multiple fronts.
