NUJ’s first female DNP Dr. Abimbola bags Broadcast Excellence Award
The Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and first woman to hold this role in the union’s 70-year history, Dr Abimbola Oyetunde has bagged the Excellence in Broadcast Journalism and Leadership Service Award at the weekend.
The recognition was at the Advanced Management Academy during its International Women’s Day 2026 celebration.
She expressed profound gratitude and humility.
Dr. Oyetunde said: “I stand before you today, accepting this prestigious Excellence in Broadcast Journalism and Leadership Service Award on this momentous International Women’s Day 2026.”
She pledged the recognition would spur her to greater service.
“To the Advanced Management Academy, thank you for recognizing not just my work, but the tireless spirit of women who amplify truth, inspire change, and lead with unwavering resolve.”
Recounting her over two-decade career, she added: “From the newsrooms of Radio Nigeria to global platforms, I have wielded the microphone as a tool for justice, unearthing stories of resilience, holding power to account, and giving voice to the voiceless. Journalism is not merely reporting facts; it is igniting progress.”
The award, she noted, honors her leadership in mentoring young women journalists, advocating for media welfare, and championing inclusive narratives that uplift Nigeria.
Dr. Oyetunde used the platform to rally women
“Today, on International Women’s Day, let us celebrate those breaking barriers”
We are the broadcasters shaping public discourse, the leaders building equitable futures, and the trailblazers proving excellence knows no gender.
To my sisters in the struggle: rise boldly, speak fearlessly, lead unapologetically. Our stories are our power.”
She thanked her family, mentors, and the NUJ family.
“Your support has been my greatest anchor. Together, we will continue scripting a legacy of impact.
Here’s to more women leading, more truths told, and a world transformed. God bless you all!”
Dr. Oyetunde pledged continued service to the growth of the journalism profession in Nigeria and beyond.
