Easter Celebration: NUJ FCT Chairman Grace Ike urges hope, unity, national renewal
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Grace Ike, has extended warm Easter felicitations to Christian faithful in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria, urging renewed commitment to hope, sacrifice, and national unity.
In her Easter message, Ike described the celebration as a cornerstone of the Christian faith, symbolising victory over death, the triumph of light over darkness, and the promise of redemption through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
She noted that the season calls for deep reflection on virtues such as love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and selfless service to humanity, as exemplified by Christ’s teachings.
The NUJ chairman also highlighted the spiritual significance of the Lenten season, marked by fasting, prayer, and charity, describing it as a demonstration of faith and discipline that should inspire peaceful coexistence and moral integrity in society.
She urged Christian faithful, particularly media professionals, to uphold the principles of truth, fairness, and responsibility in the discharge of their duties, while contributing meaningfully to national development.
Ike further called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, to embrace unity, tolerance, and mutual respect, stressing that the country’s strength lies in its diversity.
She encouraged citizens to extend love and kindness to the less privileged, noting that Easter is not only a celebration of faith but also a season of compassion and giving.
The NUJ FCT chairman also charged leaders at all levels to draw inspiration from the spirit of sacrifice and service associated with Easter by prioritising citizens’ welfare, promoting justice, and ensuring inclusive governance.
While wishing Nigerians a peaceful celebration, she advised that festivities be conducted responsibly and in an atmosphere of goodwill.
Ike concluded by praying that the resurrection of Christ would renew hope, strengthen unity, and usher in lasting peace and prosperity for the nation.
