Marafa dumps APC bloc, adopts ADC ahead of 2027 polls
A fresh political realignment is underway in Zamfara State as former senator Kabiru Garba Marafa and his supporters have adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision followed a closed-door caucus meeting of the Marafa political movement held in Kaduna, where key stakeholders deliberated on the group’s future political direction.
In a statement issued by the group’s secretary, Aminu A. Jelani, the adoption of the ADC was described as the outcome of “extensive consultations and review of prevailing political realities.”
“The caucus unanimously resolved to formally adopt the ADC as the political platform of the Marafa political movement,” the statement read.
The resolution, according to Jelani, was ratified through a vote by members present at the meeting. He added that supporters across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas have been directed to immediately commence registration with the party, alongside intensified grassroots mobilisation.
“Consequently, all members, supporters, coordinators, and stakeholders are hereby directed to immediately commence registration with the ADC and intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts,” he said.
The statement further revealed that the move followed a formal invitation by the ADC leadership, with former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, reportedly playing a key role in facilitating engagement between both parties.
The group pledged to work with the ADC in “good faith, sincerity, and openness,” while urging the party leadership to prioritise inclusiveness and cooperation.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting good governance, justice, accountability, and people-oriented leadership, describing the shift as the beginning of “a new phase of strategic political engagement.”
The development comes amid growing political manoeuvring across Nigeria as stakeholders begin to position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
