FG set to investigate tragic death of Nigerian footballer in Uganda
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has announced that the Federal Government has called for a thorough investigation into the death of Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal in Uganda under unclear circumstances.
Honourable Dabiri-Erewa confirmed that the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in Uganda, Ambassador Shama Shanga, has demanded a full autopsy and a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Lawal’s death.
In a statement, Honourable Dabiri-Erewa described Lawal’s death as both tragic and suspicious, emphasizing that the Commission has insisted on a complete investigation.
She also reassured the public that the Nigerian government would ensure transparency and thoroughness in the probe.
Lawal tragically passed away on 20th February after reportedly falling from the third floor of a shopping mall. At the time of his death, he was a player for Vipers Sports Club in the Ugandan league.
