Uromi Killings: DSP Barau Jibrin donates N16M to families of North Hunters
Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Wednesday, visited Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State to offer condolences and financial assistance to the families of the 16 travellers murdered in Uromi, Esan North East LGA of Edo State.
During the visit at At-Taqwa Mosque in Sabon Fegi, Bunkure LGA, Senator Barau met with grieving families from Bunkure, Kibiya, Rano, and Garko LGAs.
He was accompanied by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, and other dignitaries.
According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau assured the affected families that justice would be served and those responsible for the killings would face the full wrath of the law.
He confirmed that, in addition to the 14 suspects already in custody, two more had been arrested.
To support the bereaved families, the Senate Deputy President announced a donation of N1 million to each of the 16 families, totaling N16 million.
He also pledged to sponsor a motion on the issue when the Senate reconvenes later in the month.
“I am here to express my deepest sympathies for the tragic incident that claimed the lives of 16 of our brothers last Thursday. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus and provide a swift recovery to those injured,” Senator Barau stated.
He further revealed that he had contacted the Kano State governor and security agencies immediately after the incident, leading to prompt action and the arrest of the suspects. He assured that the state government was fully committed to supporting the affected families.
“We will not treat this matter lightly. We are committed to ensuring that the culprits are brought to book and face the full force of the law,” he affirmed.
Speaking on behalf of the families, the Chief Imam of the area, Sheikh Zainul Abidina Auwal, expressed gratitude to Senator Barau for his efforts in ensuring justice, commending him as a leader essential to the nation’s progress.
