Akpabio threatens legal action, seeks public retraction, apology from senators Natasha, Abbo

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, has strongly rejected accusations by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) that he orchestrated an assassination plot against her.
Akpabio labeled the allegations as malicious, false, and without foundation, stating that they were part of a deliberate misinformation campaign.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio reaffirmed his commitment to national unity, democratic values, and the rule of law, saying that such defamatory accusations would not distract him from his duties.
Eyiboh also revealed that formal letters of demand would soon be issued to Akpoti-Uduaghan and former Senator Elisha Abbo, seeking retractions, apologies, and compensation for the reputational damage caused by their claims.
The allegations stem from remarks Akpoti-Uduaghan made during a speech in Kogi State on April 1, 2025, where she accused Akpabio of recruiting former Governor Yahaya Bello to assassinate her.
Akpabio’s office strongly condemned these remarks as an outrageous and provocative fabrication.
Eyiboh further pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously made similar false accusations, including one of sexual harassment against Akpabio, which she later retracted without further explanation.
He suggested that these repeated claims were an attempt to exploit victimhood narratives for personal and political gain.
Akpabio also rejected recent statements by former Senator Elisha Abbo, who claimed that the Senate President had manipulated the judiciary to remove him from office.
Eyiboh clarified that Abbo’s removal was due to a constitutional judgment by the Court of Appeal, not political interference, and that Abbo had already apologized for similar allegations in 2023.
The Senate President’s office pointed out that these coordinated attacks appeared politically motivated, with individuals trying to discredit the Senate leadership.
Akpabio emphasized that despite the legal actions underway, his primary focus remains on legislative duties and promoting progress for Nigerians.
