Court issues restraining order against Pro-Wike Rally in Bayelsa
The High Court of Bayelsa State, sitting in Yenagoa, has issued an order restraining associates of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, from holding a planned mega rally in the state pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.
The rally, scheduled for April 12, 2025, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has been halted by the court’s ruling.
The order was granted by Hon. Justice I.A. Uzakah in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025, filed by the state’s Attorney General, Mr. Biriyai Dambo SAN.
The defendants in the case are Mr. George Turnah, the lead convener of the NEW Associates, the organizers of the rally, and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Other parties involved include the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Police Command.
The court’s order restrains the defendants and their associates from conducting, organizing, or participating in any political assembly or rally within Bayelsa State for the purpose of celebrating or hosting Minister Wike.
The matter has been adjourned to April 11, 2025, for hearing.
