FG disburses ₦50 Billion to University Unions as Tinubu reaffirms commitment to Education

The Federal Government has officially released ₦50 billion to academic and non-academic unions in federal universities for the payment of earned allowances, fulfilling a promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Marufu Olatunji Alausa, during a briefing in Abuja. He described the development as a demonstration of the Tinubu administration’s firm resolve to shift Nigeria from a resource-dependent economy to a knowledge-driven one through deliberate investments in education, infrastructure, and human capital.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister noted that the move stands as further proof of President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s education sector.
Dr. Alausa stressed that this intervention is more than a financial transaction; it represents President Tinubu’s confidence in the potential of Nigerian youths and acknowledges the essential role played by both academic and non-academic staff in grooming them.
He further conveyed the President’s sincere appreciation to the university unions for maintaining their faith in his administration and for contributing to the peaceful atmosphere that has prevailed in federal institutions nationwide. He noted that Nigeria is currently witnessing one of its longest uninterrupted academic sessions in recent memory, attributing this to the mutual understanding between the government and the academic community.
The Minister pledged that the government would continue working closely with all stakeholders within the education sector to guarantee quality, globally competitive education for every Nigerian child.
This announcement, according to the Ministry, represents another milestone under the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and highlights the federal government’s determination to turn Nigeria’s education sector into a model for other African nations and beyond.
