Ruben Amorim apologises to Manchester United fans, promises brighter days ahead
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued an apology to supporters, describing the club’s season as a “disaster” while assuring fans that better times lie ahead.
United concluded their Premier League campaign in a disappointing 15th position, their lowest league finish since relegation in 1974. Their woes were compounded last Wednesday following a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, which confirmed that the club would miss out on European football next season for only the second time in 35 years.
Speaking to fans after a 2–0 home victory over Aston Villa in their final match of the season, Amorim, who took charge in November, accepted full responsibility for the team’s underperformance and urged supporters to remain optimistic.
“I want to apologise for this season. I know you are really disappointed with me and with the team,” said the Portuguese manager.
“But now we have to make a choice. We either remain stuck in the past, because this season is in the past, it’s over, or we stick together and move forward.
“Six months ago, after my first three matches in charge, with two victories and a draw, I told you, ‘the storm is coming’. Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you the good days are coming.
“If there’s one club in the world that can overcome any season, any disaster, it is our club, it is Manchester United.”
United supporters will be hopeful that Amorim can lead a revival and restore the club’s reputation following one of the most challenging campaigns in its recent history.
