NiMet predicts widespread thunderstorms, rains across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast heavy rains and thunderstorms in various parts of the country from Saturday to Monday, urging Nigerians to take safety precautions.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Friday, early morning thunderstorms are expected on Saturday across parts of Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa states, while more thunderstorms with rain will affect Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi later in the day.
In the North-Central, morning thunderstorms will hit Benue, Plateau, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nasarawa, with similar weather expected in the evening across Kwara, Kogi, and Plateau states.
The Southern region is to experience cloudy skies with chances of early morning rains in Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa, followed by isolated thunderstorms and rains in most parts of the South before nightfall.
NiMet issued similar predictions for Sunday and Monday, warning of possible strong winds and advised residents to fasten loose objects, avoid driving in heavy downpours, and unplug electrical appliances.
The agency also called on airline operators to obtain real-time, airport-specific forecasts for flight safety and urged the public to stay updated through NiMet’s official website.
