Killings: Tinubu to visit Benue State Wednesday
President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his planned visit to Kaduna State and will instead travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in a fresh bid to address the recurring violence that has claimed hundreds of lives and destroyed property across several communities.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to him, Tinubu was earlier scheduled to visit Kaduna on Wednesday to inaugurate various state government projects, but the visit has now been moved to Thursday, June 19, 2025.
Onanuga explained that the President’s visit to Benue aims to assess the worsening crisis firsthand and engage all relevant stakeholders on lasting solutions to the persistent conflict. He noted that during the trip, Tinubu would hold meetings with traditional rulers, political figures, religious and community leaders, as well as youth representatives to chart a course for peace.
The presidency also revealed that in preparation for the visit, Tinubu had already dispatched key officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence to the state.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu recently condemned the ongoing killings in Benue and urged leaders and citizens of the state to embrace peace and reconciliation. He also sent his condolences to the bereaved families and those affected by the violence.
