Super Falcons dazzle with 3-1 victory over Ghana in Final Pre-WAFCON Friendly
Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a resounding 3-1 win over arch-rivals Ghana in their final preparatory match ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The keenly anticipated fixture, held in Morocco, saw the Nigerian side dominate proceedings from the outset.
Chinwendu Ihezuo opened the scoring in the 34th minute, breaking the deadlock after a cagey start to the encounter.
Ten minutes later, talismanic forward Asisat Oshoala extended the lead with a composed finish, giving Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 advantage going into the break.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade added a third in the second half, further underlining the Falcons’ superiority on the day.
Ghana managed a late consolation goal with just two minutes left on the clock, but it proved insufficient to alter the outcome of what was a commanding Nigerian performance.
The match served as the final test for the Super Falcons before the tournament kicks off on 5 July 2025. They had earlier played out a goalless draw against Portugal in a previous friendly.
With nine WAFCON titles to their name, Nigeria’s women are aiming to secure a record-extending 10th championship. Drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, the Super Falcons will begin their campaign this Sunday against Tunisia, with fans and analysts alike expecting another strong tournament showing.
