Nico Williams commits to Athletic Bilbao with record 10-Year contract

Spain international Nico Williams has officially pledged his long-term future to Athletic Bilbao, signing a remarkable 10-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2035.
The 22-year-old winger, who had been heavily tipped for a possible move to Barcelona, with interest also coming from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, has opted to remain loyal to the Basque side. His existing contract, initially set to run until 2027, has now been significantly extended.
Williams, a product of Bilbao’s youth system, made his senior team debut in April 2021 at just 18 years old and has since made 167 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals. He played a crucial role in Bilbao’s successful 2023/24 La Liga campaign, where they finished fourth to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for the 2025/26 season.
On the international stage, Williams was a standout performer for Spain at Euro 2024, where he netted a goal in the final to help La Roja clinch a 2-1 victory over England.
His dazzling form for both club and country made him one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents, but this new deal puts to rest speculation about his immediate future.
This move marks a significant statement of intent by Athletic Bilbao to build their future around one of their brightest homegrown stars.
