Two dead, four injured in tragic Abia road crash
Two persons have lost their lives following a fatal road accident involving a commercial Mark truck and a tricycle along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli road in Abia State.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Sector Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, disclosed that the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Umuda, along the busy highway.
According to her, six people, made up of two males, three females and a child, were involved in the accident. Four others, including a male, two females and a child, sustained injuries, while two were sadly confirmed dead.
Ezeoma explained that the FRSC rescue team arrived at the crash scene within two minutes of receiving the report and promptly carried out emergency response operations.
Preliminary findings from the FRSC indicated that the probable cause of the accident was a speed limit violation, worsened by wet weather conditions at the time of the crash. Though the road was paved, poor visibility and reduced control due to the rain likely contributed to the incident.
The injured victims were swiftly taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, for medical attention, while the deceased bodies have been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
While extending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a quick recovery, the FRSC advised all road users, particularly commercial drivers, to strictly obey speed limits and exercise extra caution, especially during adverse weather conditions.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safer roads and fuller lives for residents and travellers in Abia State and across Nigeria.
