Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno officially defects to APC

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Eno made the declaration on Friday in Uyo, the state capital, saying his decision came after “three months of wide consultation” with critical stakeholders and political allies across the state.
While expressing appreciation to the PDP for the support given to him since assuming office, Eno said it was time to make what he described as “a progressive move”. He explained that the shift was motivated by his admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and a desire for Akwa Ibom State to align more closely with the federal government for greater developmental benefits.
“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” Eno stated.
He also assured the people of Akwa Ibom that his administration would remain committed to the welfare and development of the state, pledging to work for every citizen irrespective of political affiliation.
The defection, long speculated in political circles, marks a significant political shift in Akwa Ibom — a state historically considered a stronghold of the PDP.
