APC adopts consensus to pick Oyebanji as Ekiti Governorship Candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the consensus method to select its governorship candidate for the upcoming October 27 primary election in Ekiti State.
This follows the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo, leaving Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the sole contender.
In a statement released on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) approved the switch from the previously scheduled direct primary to a consensus arrangement, in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022 and the APC constitution.
“The All Progressives Congress announces its decision to now adopt the consensus mode for the conduct of its governorship primary election in Ekiti State. The change from the earlier indicated direct primary to consensus mode was necessitated by the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo,” the statement read.
According to Morka, Omolayo informed the party of her withdrawal through a letter, in which she endorsed Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji as the consensus candidate and pledged her support for any lawful arrangement by the party to nominate its flag bearer.
The APC said it had notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the change through a letter dated October 13, 2025, fulfilling all legal requirements under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act.
The party also released an updated timetable for its nomination process: a Delegate Congress will hold on Saturday, October 25, 2025, followed by an Appeal Congress on Sunday, October 26. A Special Nomination Congress will then take place on Monday, October 27, 2025, to officially ratify the consensus candidate.
Morka praised Omolayo’s “spirit of sportsmanship and commitment to party unity and progress,” urging APC members and stakeholders in Ekiti to remain united ahead of the July 20, 2026, governorship election.
He also recalled that another aspirant, Kayode Ojo, had earlier been disqualified by the party’s screening committee on October 9.
